French and Francophone Studies Professor
Eric Gans, the graduate student complainant's thesis adviser, allegedly sent a love letter and more than 300 poems to her from 2011-13 describing his affection and admiration for the student. The student, who became increasingly anxious and depressed, according to a Title IX investigation, requested that Gans stop his behavior. At the time of their communication, Gans was married to a former student with whom he had become romantically involved while academically supervising her. Gans has contended that his conduct toward the graduate student was welcome. He assumed emeritus status with restriction and still has an office on the UCLA campus.
